QZAP - The Queer Zine Archive Project

April, Come She Will...

pinkstar75It looks like this month is shaping up to be pretty busy for QZAP.  Last weekend we had a meeting with the good folks at Interference Archive to talk about combining forces and sharing knowledge for creating digital archives.  They’re doing amazing work, and we’re happy to be collaberating with them!

On April 20th Chris and Milo will be at Beloit College talking about queer zines and queer zine history.  Afterwords we’ll be hosting a zine making workshop in conjunction with Alliance House and the Women’s & Gender Studies program.

On April 27th and 28th we’ll be at two zine fests!  Alana will be tabling for QZAP and with other zine projects at the Pioneer Valley Zine Fest in Amherst, MA.  At the same time Milo will be at the Midwest Zine Fest in Urbana, IL speaking about queer zines and archiving.  If you’re heading to Amherst, be sure to check out the reading on Friday night.  Amber Dearest, zinestress of Culture Slut will be reading along with other great folks.

ALSO on April 27th, it’s the world premiere of She Said Boom: The Story of Fifth Column in Toronto. The film is a documentary about queercore band Fifth Column among whose members included queer zine pioneer GB Jones, who along with Bruce La Bruce created the legendary zine J.Ds in the mid to late 1980s. It will be screening at the Hot Docs festival and looks like it'll be amazing!

Chicago Zine Fest!!!

CZFheadQZAP is proud to be taking part in this year's Chicago Zine Fest.  We'll be actively participating in so many ways it's hard to count.

On Friday, March 9th both Chris and Milo will be reading at the exhibitors reading at 826CHI from 7pm-9pm

On Saturday we'll be tabling with new and older favorite zines, our new buttons and other goodies on the 8th Floor of the Columbia College's Conaway Center.  Chris and Miss Nico will both be leading workshops and participating in panel discussions along with other queer zinesters whose work is archived here at QZAP.  They all look like they're going to be amazing!  If you're able to, please stop by and visit with us!

The Chicago Zine Fest is just the beginning of what is shaping up to be a very busy year for us here at QZAP.  We'll be at various events around the country this year (maybe more than ever before!)  This spring you'll also be able to find collective members at the Midwest Zine Fest in Urbana, IL (April), the Pioneer Valley Zine Fest in Amherst, MA (April), Mondo Homo (Atlanta) and that's just for starters.

Hopefully we'll see you sometime soon!

5packGood News, Everyone!!!  QZAP got new buttons!  Head over to the QZAP store (to your left) to order one.  We updated the classic "Zinesters" design, and added 3 new ones.  Go us!

Also, as you may have heard, our participation in the SOPA/PIPA black-out was great.  The bills have been stopped (for now, at least) so we can keep on keepin' on with our whole queer zine archiving thing.

January started out great for us, and 2012 is only going to get better.  The newest member of the collective managed to get 17 zines scanned and uploaded in the space of about 6 days.  Thanks, Patricia!

Now we're gearing up for the Chicago Zine Fest at the beginning of March and working on a few other projects, as well.  Stay tuned...
